Refugee Shabbat

Saturday, February 4, 2023 13 Shevat 5783

11:00 AM - 11:45 PMMain Sanctuary

A Shabbat and weekend bringing Jews across the United States and around the world together to take action for refugees and asylum seekers.

This past year our hearts swelled at the massive global effort to evacuate and find safe homes for refugees, including Ukrainians, Afghans, Venezuelans, and Haitians fleeing for their lives. Our hearts broke hearing these people's stories, forced to leave their homes due to the threat of danger, and turned away at border crossings worldwide.

This year, we invited you on Refugee Shabbat, February 4th, to hear from Mina Hayati who will share her personal experiences about fleeing for safety and coming to the U.S. for refuge.

Mina Hayati came to the United States through a Special Immigrant Visa for Afghans. Mina applied for a visa and after passing her interview and receiving the visa she was evacuated from Kabul to Doha military camp and then to the U.S. arriving on September 7, 2022. Mina will share her experiences with us after Musaf.

If you are interested in helping refugees resettle in our area, please email socialaction@thebayit.org.

In collaboration with HIAS and the Westchester Jewish Coalition for Immigration
