Elul Tishrei Shiur
Monday, September 15, 2025 • 22 Elul 5785
7:30 PM - 8:30 PMLower Level Beit Midrash"Walking into the Unknown: Avraham, Yonah, and the Faith of Uncertainty" with Dr. Tanya White.
Faith is often mistaken for certainty - Karl Marx even called it “the opium of the masses.” But the Torah offers another vision: faith as the courage to face uncertainty without losing our moral compass. Through Avraham at the Akeidah and Yonah’s reluctant journey, we will explore how doubt and struggle can deepen our relationship with God and reveal a faith that lives not in answers, but in carrying the questions. During Elul and our current era these stories call us to face uncertainty with courage and hope.
Dr. Tanya White lectures in Jewish Philosophy at Bar-Ilan University and serves as a senior lecturer at Matan Women’s Institute for Torah Learning. She was appointed a Sacks Scholar in its inaugural cohort and is the founder and host of Books and Beyond: The Rabbi Sacks Podcast. Her work appears in books, academic journals, and the Jewish press, and she publishes a weekly blog at www.tanyawhite.org.
This event is in person only.
