The Bayit is partnering as a fiscal sponsor  with the Northwest Bronx Coalition for Refugees (NWBCR) to help resettle an Afghan refugee family. The family has recently arrived from overseas! They have been resettled in a three-bedroom apartment in lower Westchester that is appropriate for the large family size, which includes several  younger children.

Working with the International Rescue Committee and with the funding support of many*, the NWBCR-sponsored family will be receiving comprehensive resettlement assistance for up to the first year of their new life in New York, including:  1) a furnished apartment with rental, utility, and internet support; 2) grocery fund assistance; 3) transportation support; 4) assistance in applying for available government support; 5) connections to education for the children; 6) initial job placement; and 7) placement support and registration for medical and dental care.

To provide the needed support for this large family, it will take enormous volunteer time and an estimated $45,000 or more. The family will receive some initial limited financial support from the government but that will not come close to meeting their basic needs.

Please join NWBCR’s effort by making a financial commitment to help cover costs and fill the funding gap. Please consider any amount and know that your contribution – at any level – will make a difference:

$25 - $36 covers one week of household and personal care products.
-  $100 supports one month of utility expenses.
-  Contributions from $50 - $250 will help provide healthy food to adults and children.
-  Rent is the largest expense – for this family sized apartment, rent is almost $600 per week.

Thank you for your support!

*NWBCR thanks the Westchester Jewish Coalition for Immigration (WJCI) and its funders UJA-Federation and The Shapiro Foundation for a critical $5,000 matching microgrant, as well as a generous donor who provided a $2,500 matching grant.
