American Orthodox communities are grappling with the same polarization as American society as a whole. Rather than focusing on a description of the conflicts, in this discussion we will address foundational questions that animate these conflicts such as the following: What is/should be the relationship between religion and politics? How should Jews engage in civic life? How do/should Jews balance our interests and our values? How do people and communities navigate these questions differently from one another, and why?

This conversation will be part of a larger Hartman initiative in the weeks leading up the presidential election to explore, more generally, the relationship between American Jews and Democracy.
