Bayit Coronavirus Email #17: Thursday Support Space + Support Survey, Quarantined With Abusers, Riverdale Y Online

03/19/2020 08:45:49 PM

Dear Bayit Family,

As our second Shabbat in this new moment approaches, I invite us to reach out tonight and tomorrow to as many of each other as possible to say, over the phone or text message or any means, "Shabbat shalom".  We will carry those wishes through the Shabbat ahead.  We continue to pray for the health of those who have been infected with the Covid-19 virus and the recovery of those who are ill as a result of their infection.  This email contains various updates and resources for our community - please read it thoroughly and carefully and utilize it as appropriate.

1) Local Outbreak Information - Social Distancing Communitywide Guidelines:  Please review our Social Distancing Communitywide Guidelines released this morning by the Riverdale Jewish community, and Rav Avi's personal video message about this.  I am comforted to see more and more community members who are staying in avail themselves of our resources (see #9 below) to shop for and check in on anyone who should be entirely at home - please spread the word.

2) Daily Tefillah Zoom Room: At our daily tefillah times (today: 6:45am and 7:50am Shacharit, 6:50pm Mincha/Maariv), there is a Zoom room we can join to pray in our homes alongside each other.  Please click here to join - this is the permanent link and is also on top of the Bayit's homepage.  At the end of each tefillah slot, a clergy member will teach a Mishnah from Tractate Pesachim to honor the memories of those for whom community members have been saying Kaddish at this time.  For the additional tefillah we are adding in every Shemoneh Esrei from the High Holidays supplication for deliverance from a plague outbreak, please click here

3) Bayit-led Online Support Space at 8:45pm Tonight with Aviva Braun, LCSW: We will have online Zoom support space for those wishing to connect and process this experience together.  Tonight's group will be facilitated by Bayit member and LCSW Aviva Braun.  The Zoom video chat space will be open from 8:45pm-9:30pm (click here for Zoom or dial-in audio at +1 646 558 8656; Meeting ID: 373 071 966). The online support space continues nightly at 8:45pm.  Schedule is as follows: Sat night 3/21: Dr. Seth Aronson, Sun 3/22: Dr. Michelle Jasper-Brody.  The link for each session is the same - here.

4) Support Space 1-Minute Survey - What Kinds of Group Support Spaces Do You Want?: Our amazing team of mental health professionals is restructuring our nightly support groups starting next week to be tailored to specific demographics and needs.  Please take this 1-minute survey now to let us know how we can support your psychological/emotional needs best in these support spaces.

5) Quarantined With Abusers: Domestic abuse (physical, sexual, financial, verbal and emotional) impacts community members every day.  Living under quarantine with an abuser is that much more unbearable.  Please look out for friends and for yourself.  The Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Abuse (JCADA) hotline at 877-88-JCADA and Shalom Task Force hotline at 888-883-2323 are open.  Your Bayit clergy are available at any hour.

6) Riverdale Y Online: The Riverdale Y is now offering many classes and programs online open to the community.  This page will also serve as a clearinghouse for the many events in our respective sub-communities that are open to all.  Please continue to check and use the Riverdale Y Online.

7) Upcoming: This Shabbat, and Next Week for Pesach: Please look out for two emails tomorrow, one with many resources in advance of this Shabbat (Kabbalat Shabbat with Reb Elli at 6pm, Tot Shabbat video with Morah Devorah, Melava Malka and much more) and one advertising four pre-Pesach classes next week to help us all - especially first timers (who can join this WhatsApp group just for you!) - prepare for Pesach this year.

8) Passover Food Pantry Food DistributionsThe Kingsbridge Center of Israel (KCI) Kosher Food Pantry is offering FREE Kosher for Passover food to those in need. The food has been made available to the Pantry at no cost by Met Council and is available for anyone who thinks that a little extra help will benefit you and/or your family. Food available includes Matzah, Grape Juice, Chicken, Eggs and other non-perishables. Pre-packaged boxes can be picked up or delivered to your home. Please contact or (646) 647-1380. All contact remains confidential to a small group of local individuals.

9) Community Support: Errand Volunteer System, Phone Check-in Squad, and Chizzuk Households WhatsApp Group

  • Submit your errand requests here and someone will respond within a couple of hours.  Please share this resource - our community is here to help!

10) Please enjoy a new Parsha Thought by Rabbanit Bracha.

May it be a healthy evening,
