1) Local Outbreak Information:  We were made aware this weekend of a Bayit member who tested positive for Covid-19.  This member is asymptomatic at this time and had not been inside the Bayit building or other local synagogues for more than two weeks from the positive test.  If you have specific questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to a member of the clergy.  We continue to monitor and be in touch with public health officials and our partner institutions around Riverdale.  We must remain vigilant about continuing to practice all best hygiene and social distancing practices.

2) Daily Tefillah Zoom Room Continues - Please Add Avinu Malkeinu in Shema Koleinu: At our daily tefillah times, there will be a Zoom room we can join to pray in our homes alongside each other.  The room will be open during our regular tefillah times:  Shacharit - Sunday 8:30am-9:00am; Monday-Friday 6:40am-8:30am; Mincha/Maariv - Sunday-Thursday 6:50pm-7:20pm.  The room is set up to mute participants upon entry.  You can unmute to be heard by others.  Please click here to join - this is the permanent link and is also on top of the Bayit's homepage.  At the end of each tefillah slot, a clergy member will teach a Mishnah from Tractate Pesachim to honor the memories of those for whom community members have been saying Kaddish at this time.

At this time, the Bayit joins other communities in asking each of us, in our personal Amidah three times a day, to add in the Shema Koleinu prayer (before "Ki Atah Shome'a...") the High Holidays supplication for deliverance from a plague outbreak:

Avinu Malkeinu: Our father, Our God -- Remember Your compassion and subdue Your anger. Bring an end to pestilence, sword, and hunger; captivity and destruction, sin and oppression, plague and calamity; every illness, misfortune, and quarrel; all kinds of danger, every evil decree, and causeless hatred. Bring an end to these for us and for all the people of Your covenant and for all the world.

5) Covid-19 Community Impact Survey - please fill out and make a difference: Please fill out this brief survey to help us better understand and address the community’s immediate needs. HIR members and SAR parents, Sarah and Leib Litman (professors of psychology and public health) have collaborated with colleagues at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health and NYU Langone’s Infectious Disease Clinic, to create this survey. As one of the first communities in the country to be directly impacted by Covid-19, we have the opportunity to better understand not only our own needs, but also to help communities around the U.S. anticipate their constituents' needs. This study is completely anonymous and an opportunity to share your experience and suggestions. We are interested in your participation whether or not you have been under quarantine and more than one family member is also welcome to participate. Feel free to share this with others who may be impacted. The study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Columbia University. For any questions, feedback or suggestion, please feel free to contact Dr. Sarah Weinberger-Litman, sweinberger@mmm.edu or 917-836-4257.

6) Addressing Financial//Resource Needs: As a Bayit, we are here to help each other.  We recognize that the financial and resource tolls of this crisis will only grow.  We are preparing to support our community on many levels.  If you are in current need or expect to be in need, please contact any clergy team member so we can begin to assess need, prepare and provide immediate support.  If you'd like to offer support, please donate here.

7) Mikvah Guidelines ReminderThe Riverdale Mikvah has moved to an appointment-only model every night. Please call the Mikvah ahead of time so usage can be staggered thereby ensuring the safest possible fulfillment of this essential practice. Please do all Mikvah preparation at home. If you or anyone in your household has a fever, respiratory symptoms or experiencing any signs of illness, we ask that you not make use of the Mikvah at this time. If you are in quarantine, you may not go out to use the Mikvah.

8) Quarantined Households WhatsApp Group: To join a WhatsApp group for quarantined individuals and receive messages of chizzuk, please click here.

9) Bayit Quarantine Errand Support System: Reminder: an amazing group of Bayit (and beyond!) volunteers is now deployed to assist with running errands for those in quarantined households.  They have helped many people in Riverdale and Westchester!  Submit your requests here and someone will respond within a couple of hours.  Please share this resource - our community is here to help!

10) Bayit Phone Check-in Squad - volunteers and call recipients welcome: Our Bayit has a wonderful group of volunteers calling community members to check in and connect.  If you'd like to receive a call to connect with another member of the Bayit community, or if you'd like to make calls, please contact Shira Gordon at shiragordon25@gmail.com.

11) Bayit COVID-19 Information Repository: All the emails that we are sending about Covid-19 are posted to our website at www.thebayit.org/covid19updates.

Reminder to all to take good care of ourselves and each other.

May it be a week of strength,

Rav Steven, Rav Ezra, Rabbanit Bracha, Rabba Sara and Rav Avi
