Bayit Coronavirus Email #10 - Message From Rav Steven and Community Letter on Shabbat Tefillot and Beyond

Dear Bayit Family,

Our Bayit is founded to be, and has always been, a beit k'nesset - a place of gathering.  A place we physically share in order to create community.  This is the mandate of our partner schools and shuls and institutions across Jewish Riverdale and beyond.

One of the hardest parts of the COVID-19 effects is the way it limits our capacity to achieve that most basic principle by requiring distance, quarantine, and similar measures.  After much discussion, consultation with doctors and public health experts, and with our Riverdale partners, and with heavy hearts, our Bayit has decided, as a commitment to do what is in our power to slow the spread of COVID-19 for all and protect the health of our community members, to take the additional step of suspending our in-person tefillot at the Bayit.  We do this as part of a collective commitment with our communal partners as expressed in the letter here.

Our continued focus in these days is to continue to create community in every other means possible - through phone-call squads, WhatsApp groups, Zoom events, and through amazing volunteer connections, like those who will be delivering meals to the people who usually attend the Friday Night Tent which is not taking place this week.

More details about this decision and its consequences will follow in email later today.  For now, please know that no tefillot or programs are taking place in the Bayit effective this afternoon.  We will continue to be in ongoing touch and we are available to service each of you, an each other together, as always.

With strength, prayers for health and healing, and Shabbat shalom,

Rav Steven, Rav Ezra, Rabbanit Bracha, Rabba Sara and Rav Avi
