Bayit Coronavirus Email #7 - Online Support Space 8:30pm Tonight with Dr. Elli Kranzler, Weekday Classes on Zoom Only (with Link), Adar Video #4 and More

03/11/2020 07:16:28 PM

Dear Bayit Family,

An introductory message from Rav Steven:  Happy Shushan Purim!  Shushan Purim is the day in which walled cities celebrate Purim.  In many ways, we are being instructed to create our own "walled cities" in the wake of COVID-19.  This helps keep us safe, but it comes with additional great challenges.  We feel very acutely the need to combat the imposed "social distancing" which is a virus containment measure with "social connection" through all means possible - WhatsApp groups, phone calls, sharing space safely, and the like.  Thanks to everyone who continues to reach out to connect and support - and ask for support when needed.  All of this builds community, strength and resilience.

We continue to pray for the health of those who have been infected with the Covid-19 virus and the recovery of those who are ill as a result of their infection.  This email contains various updates and resources for our community - please read it thoroughly and carefully and utilize it as appropriate.

1) Local Outbreak Information:  Please continue to be vigilant about best hygiene practices and following institutional quarantine guidelines and, for at-risk populations, checking with doctors and erring on the side of caution around public gatherings.  Our Riverdale Jewish community-wide daily briefing call included representation from the NYC DOH and the Mayor's Office, and we are all working together.  We will have more information about weekend Bayit programming tomorrow.

2) Bayit-led Online Support Space at 8:30pm Tonight on Zoom with Dr. Elli Kranzler: We will have online Zoom support space for those wishing to connect and process this experience together.  Tonight's group, open to all, will be facilitated by Bayit shaliach tzibbur and child/adolescent and adult psychiatrist Dr. Elli Kranzler.  The Zoom video chat space will be open from 8:30pm-9:15pm (click here for Zoom or dial-in audio at +1 646 558 8656; Meeting ID: 373 071 966).

3) Thursday Class Schedule - Weekday Classes Now Zoom Only: Tomorrow, Thursday, March 12th, Rav Steven's 10:00am Isaiah class and YM student Gloria Nusbacher's 11:15am Talmud class will be meeting on Zoom.  Link in next paragraph.

In recognition of the special precautions for at-risk populations, which comprise a large portion of our weekday class participants, all weekday classes are now meeting exclusively on Zoom.  There will not be an in-person option.  All classes, Monday through Thursday mornings, can be accessed through the same link - here (dial-in audio at +1 646 558 8656; Meeting ID: 470 341 910).

Please visit to open a free account. You may find it easier to use if you download the app to your phone or tablet. If you struggle with installation and the instructions on the website, please email and we will try and coach you as best we can.

4) Daily Adar Video #4 and Quarantined Households WhatsApp Group!: Our rabbinic team is sending daily Adar videos to add cheer to those in quarantine and their families - and for all of us!  Please click here - Rabba Sara's video is up!  To join a WhatsApp group for quarantined individuals where rabbinic team will post these videos and messages of chizzuk, please click here.

5) Bayit Quarantine Errand Support System Continues: Reminder: an amazing group of Bayit (and beyond!) volunteers is now deployed to assist with running errands for those in quarantined households.  They have helped many people in Riverdale and Westchester!  Submit your requests here and someone will respond within a couple of hours.  Please share this resource - our community is here to help!

6) Bayit COVID-19 Information Repository: All the emails that we are sending about Covid-19 are posted to our website at

Reminder to all to take good care of ourselves and each other.  A little unplugging from the news cycle, a little extra music and movement and breathing exercises, phone calls to friends and less-connected or at-risk folks in our Bayit and our networks - whatever works for each of us - can go a long way.

Take good care,

Rav Steven, Rav Ezra, Rabbanit Bracha, Rabba Sara and Rav Avi
