Dear Bayit Family,

Purim sameach!  Amidst our Purim joy, we continue to pray for the health of those who have been infected with the Covid-19 virus and the recovery of those who are ill as a result of their infection.  This email contains a lot of important information impacting us all as well as many great resources for our community - please read it thoroughly and carefully and utilize it as appropriate.

1) Local Outbreak Information: In our Riverdale community, we were notified that an RJC member has a confirmed case of COVID-19. The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene advised the RJC that they do not need to close their building or go into self-quarantine.

2) Tefillah and Megillah Reading on and off Zoom on Purim Day:  

a) 6:00am Shacharit with Megillah Reading at approximately 6:30am (Main Sanctuary): no Zoom

b) 7:50am Shacharit with Megillah Reading at approximately 8:20am (Main Sanctuary):  To listen to the reading, or if your device's audio is not working, call in at 1 646 558 8656, Meeting ID 987 735 915

c) 11:00am Megillah Reading (Lower Level Beit Midrash):  To listen to the reading, or if your device's audio is not working, call in at 1 646 558 8656, Meeting ID 560 260 864

Mincha/Maariv 6:45pm (Lower Level Beit Midrash; 2:30pm Early Mincha not taking place) 

3) Purim Youth Activities via Zoom: Visit beginning at 12:10pm on Tuesday for a virtual carnival!  Schedule:

  • 12:15-12:50pm: Concert with Dafna Kotok of Shir Fun, geared for children aged 3-6
  • 12:55-1:10pm: Virtual Costume parade for all ages: show off and tell about your costume
  • 1:15-2:00pm: Kahoot Trivia Game for tweens and teens with Rabbi Joseph

Additionally, there are 100 arts and crafts packets in the shul lobby for parents of tots to take home for their children between 8:30am-11am or as long as supplies last. Click here for pictures.

4) Matanot Levyonim & Machatzit Hashekel: In light of the current situation we will not be putting out coins for machatzit hashekel. All funds collected will distributed on Purim day to fulfill the mitzvah of Matanot Levyonim (gifts to the poor). For those who will not be in shul, please visit to donate online. The money collected will be divided between Rabbi Moshe Fuchs, who will distribute to the needy of the Pelham Parkway Jewish community, and our Israel charities: Carmei Ha’ir, a soup kitchen and Rabbi David Cohen, who distributes food and money to Israeli needy.

5) Daily Adar Video #2 and Quarantined Households WhatsApp Group!: Our rabbinic team is sending daily Adar videos to add cheer to those in quarantine and their families - and for all of us!  Please click here for Rav Ezra's Adar video!  To join a WhatsApp group for quarantined individuals where rabbinic team will post these videos and messages of chizzuk, please click here.

6) Yachad Shabbaton: The Yachad Shabbaton originally scheduled for this Shabbat has been postponed. Details to follow. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their homes and their time. We hope to reschedule soon.

While this Purim certainly feels different than any other, may we experience it with joy and connection to all around us.  May it truly be a day of אורה ושמחה וששון ויקר (light, joy, gladness and honor)!
